Skyfest

Every couple of years, the air force base just outside of town hosts Skyfest. You can visit on base, tour planes and then the day ends with the Thunderbirds airshow.

Matt and Kyra with a couple of good friends. Margee knew their mom down at WSU.

Air show - these two planes flew together, wtih #5 upside down. It looks like they are just inches from each other.

Here's a series of photos where the planes are flying fast. The single plane on the right seems to be flying faster. They cross over each other.

Planes landed. Kids got autographs from some of the pilots.

Summer soccer game

On the first day of summer Matt had his first soccer scrimmage with his new team. He had a blast. He was keeper, fullback and then center during the game.

I only got good photos when he was keeper. Here's a series of photos of him making a nice block on goal. Matt has neon green penny on. The boy in blue is trying to score The boy in white is a fullback on Matt's team.!

Kyra Hockey

Kyra decided to learn to play hockey, so she could join a team this fall. She's having a blast!
Kyra skating towards a puck somewhere to the right of the photo.

Kyra is front left pink helmet (there are two girls, each with pink helmets/)

Kyra's got the puck!

moms day

We made our annual voyage to Manito Park for a picnic and fun.
Kyra loves swings/

King of the hill (or play structure.)

Attempting a photo op with kids, but didn't turn out so well. Kyra sticking out her tongue and Matt being wiggly.

Boys Epic Bike Ride

On the last day of school, Margee took Matt and  five of his school buddies on an epic bike ride. To Riverfront Park for picnic lunch and a game of capture the flag. Then on to Mission Park to play at the playground and water feature. Then back towards home to stop at our favorite neighborhood ice cream parlor, Doyles.

Matt is center, to the left of the boy in red shorts.

On an old rail road bridge, converted into a bike path. Matt is center back, with blue/black stripped shirt.

more hockey-soccer for matt

We had an end of April game in Tri-cities with Matt's hockey-soccer team. That's some of his hockey friends that put together a spring soccer team. Here's Kyra climbing a tree with some of her buddies.

Matt playing defense, he's the black #20.

Matt on a breakaway (center with ball). He kicked, goalie deflected the ball and Matt's teamate to the left got the rebound and scored the goal. Good teamwork.

Woodsman

Kyra's cat loves the nice weather we've been having. He likes it so much, that he's a naughty kitty and stays out past curfew (and sometimes all night.) He likes hunting in the bushes. I guess Woodsman is a good name for him.

Let's go ride a bike!

In early May, Kyra figured out how to really ride a bike. There's no stopping her now! She loves bicycling. They have extended the Centennial Trial (a bike and jogging trail) just a few blocks from our house. It's one of our favorite family rides.

Just getting started.

She's doing it - riding a bike on two wheels all by herself!

I'm pretty cool!
Over Memorial Weekend, she even when mountain biking at Farragut State Park. She had to walk the hills (both up and down) but did a great job staying on a narrow trail!

Renovated park by downtown dam

There's a cool park by the dam right in the middle of downtown. They just renovated the park and it's wonderful. We had fun exploring it after Matt's Jr. Bloomsday race.

Kyra spoted a rainbow by the Monroe St. brindge.

Need sculpture of a native offering a salmon to mother earth. Before the dams on the Columbia and Spokane Rivers, this was the furthest inland  salmon could swim - they could not pass the falls that were here (before the dam of course!)

Jr. Bloomsday and Bloomsday

The first weekend in May is a big one in our city. Over 50,000 people come to run a 7.46 mile race called  Bloomsday, the first Sunday of May. But, they have a Jr. Bloomsday race for third and forth graders the previous day. Matt had a blast running that race. I think he ran the mile in something like 5:50. Wow!

Kyra helping Matt stretch before his 1 mile Jr. Bloomsday race.

Sasquatch came to check out the kids.

And they are off. Matt is in a gray shirt left of center.

There's Matt, gray shirt far left.

He's almost to the finish line. These two ended up tied in the race. Matt was fourth place in third grade boys with a time of 5:53. Matt was sixth place out of all third and fourth grade boys.
